Job Description
Nokia Standards is seeking talented fresh Ph.D and experienced research engineers. The candidate will have to carry out research in the field of 5G and beyond, support the design, standardization and development of the related radio access technologies, publish key results, and file patent disclosures.

 

The primary duties for this position include: 
•    Standards research related to future wireless networks offering superior end-to-end performance, enabling new use cases and businesses.
•    3GPP standardization research to ensure competitive evolution of the 5G NR standard. Analyse system designs and provide associated technical recommendations and reports for 5G evolution and beyond broadband technologies
•    Designing enhancements, or even new disruptive solutions for the 5G NR Radio Access Network (RAN), with emphasis on the air interface and MAC design, to enable new services and use cases
•    System-level performance assessment by means of advanced simulations.
•    Experience in AI/ML research projects and studies with focus on native AI/ML based air-interface along with their corresponding tools and techniques. Predictive modelling and algorithm development using ML is a plus.
•    The filing of multiple patent disclosures related to 5G Evolution and beyond air-interface, MAC design and protocols.
•    The dissemination of analysis and results related to 5G Evolution and beyond internally and in prestigious conferences and journals.
•    He/She will be working as part of the Nokia Standards research team, including cooperation with other Nokia and Bell Labs sites, as well as potential participation in research collaborations with Universities and other industry players.  

 

 Qualifications:
•    The ideal candidate holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or related disciplines. Preferably having system level radio research experience.
•    Experience with advanced system-level simulations, and the associated steps from modeling, implementation, execution of simulations, results analysis, and to the final step of communication of performance results.
•    Knowledge of 3GPP RAN specifications such as LTE and 5G NR, including PHY, MAC and RRC protocol layers.
•    Knowledge of programming languages is a must (e.g. C, C++, Matlab, Python, Tensorflow)
•    Ability to conduct both independent research as well as being a good collaborator working as part of team, including virtual multi-site teams. 
•    Agile mindset and willingness to occasionally change research direction and topics; e.g. as per 3GPP agreements for standardization research.
•    Strong analytical skills, attention to details, including abilities to address complicated problems, division of those into manageable sub-problems, and related problem-solving skills.
•    Creative mindset and curiosity to research and develop new solutions.
•    Documented research experience and impact; e.g. from solid track record of high-quality publications at internationally recognized conferences and Journals.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English.
