Nokia Bell Labs conducts research in a wide variety of topics, ranging from leading wireless and optical fiber technologies, to cloud-based and highly distributed computing, to fundamental physics, mathematics and computing. It is the birthplace of the transistor, information theory, cellular networking, Unix and C, and many other fundamental technological discoveries and inventions.


In Nokia Bell Labs, Espoo, we are looking for thesis workers to work in area of IoT big data collection, engineering, processing, sharing and analysis, which are distributed within telecommunications network edges and its cloud of clouds. In your work you will study challenges and opportunities that emerging number of IoT sensors and developing technologies in multitenant environment offer. Exact topics of the thesis will be individually tailored and agreed with you depending on your own interests and skills.

You will be working as a member of a team consisting of other thesis workers, Ph.D. students and experienced senior scientist with Ph.D. The team has a strong track record in inspiring and supporting thesis writing simultaneously when writers are able to create new academically and industrially valuable solutions and innovations that can be reported as patent applications and publications. 


M.Sc. student in a relevant field (e.g., telecommunications, computer science, data science, programming). Status in studies must allow creation of M.Sc. thesis on the work topic.

· Programming skills (e.g., Java and Python). Familiarity and experience on working with LTE or proposed 5G network functions, micro services or interfaces is a plus.


Experience of building and managing IoT sensor networks is a plus and prior experience with IoT data collection and processing preferred.


Together with the team, you should be able to design and implement demonstrator of, e.g., an IoT sensor network and its integration to existing distributed data dissemination system based on continuous data streams. Fast prototyping skills help.


Understanding of publish-subscribe paradigm, data stream processing and distributed computation, both theory and practice, and familiarity with Apache Kafka, MQTT, or other state-of-the-art solutions preferred.


English language skills – English is preferable language of your thesis and anyway everyday working language in our organization.
