Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

 

Nokia Bell Labs is hiring a System-on-Chip Researcher in core Bell Labs Platform and ASIC Research team. A successful candidate will join the leading research group focusing on groundbreaking System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for machine learning and telecommunication systems. Our multi-disciplinary and cross-location team has a track record of delivering innovations which form the foundation of Nokia’s market-leading solutions.

 

What you will learn and contribute to 

 

As part of our team, you will:

 

  • Develop high-quality theoretical and experimental research on system-on-chip for machine learning and radio-access-networks (RAN) applications
  • Design and implement novel analog and digital circuits in VLSI (from concept to proof-of concept test-chip)
  • Conduct design verification, timing and power analysis, circuit simulation and chip bring-up
  • Drive results of the research projects into intellectual property and product roadmaps
  • Create and maintain strong collaborations with other Nokia organizations and external academic or research institutions
  • Present and publish technical reports, research journals and major conferences

 

Your skills and experience

 

You have:

  • Recent graduate with PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer engineering, telecommunication or equivalent experience level
  • Expertise in digital logic, analog or mixed-signal circuit design from top-level to physical layout design
  • Strong hands-on design experience with CAD and EDA tools for FPGA and/or ASIC development
  • Be fluent in HDL (System Verilog, Verilog or VHDL) and/or High Level Synthesis (HLS)
  • Experience in complete ASIC design flow (from schematic to tape-out) is a plus

 

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Knowledge and experience with EITHER (i) machine learning models and concepts, software design tools and libraries, e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras or (ii) radio access network systems and 3GPP standards related to 4G and 5G
  • Experience with experimental lab setups & high-end test equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication in a multi-disciplinary team
