The team you’ll be part of

Our Business Group is a leader in wireless mobility networks and associated services. With more than 3.500 patent families essential for 5G we have a strong 5G portfolio and are a front runner in open and virtualized radio access networks (O-RAN and vRAN).

MN RAN You will join the RAN Business Unit and will enjoy our culture of innovation, openness, discipline, simplicity, accountability, and profit mindset. Your future teams are developing Nokia 3GPP mainstream radio technology products and solutions including cross-technology responsibility (Multi Radio Access Technology). Your unit’s main priorities are flawless execution of System programs including Network Management & Optimization and attached services.

                       

What you will learn and contribute to

We're looking for a SW development engineer to strengthen our team of 100 highly experienced mobile network R&D people in Espoo. Our team is developing and maintaining SW for Nokia 5G base station control plane area.

5G Control plane is responsible for controlling and maintaining UEs (User Equipment) connection to Radio Network. That covers call setup, mobility (handover control inside 5G and between 5G and LTE radio networks) and call release by handling signaling towards UE and Core networks. As part of that, Control Plane is also responsible for configuring 5G base station lower layers triggered by O&M.

As a part of our team, your responsibility area would be specifying, designing, implementing and testing new features and functionalities to 5G control plane area.

Based on your experience and area of interest, focus can be more on specification or SW design & implementation or entity testing area with significant contribution and visibility to end to end feature development with target of enabling new functionalities for Nokia Mobile Network’s end users and operators.

  • Analysis, design, implementation and testing of new functionalities as per customer and internal requirements.

  • Maintenance and customer support of the related technical areas of the product.

 

Your skills and experience

  • University/polytechnical degree in Telecommunications, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering or equivalent education level knowledge

  • C++ object oriented programming and agile SW development methods

  • Interest towards 5G and telecom area

  • Understanding for SW specification and architecture design

  • Proven experience in SW design work is preferred, but position is also open for candidates with less experience but passion to learn and become an expert on latest technologies, so do not hesitate to apply

  • Language skills in English (written and spoken fluently).

 

It would be nice if you also had

  • Real passion for SW specification, design, implementation and testing.

  • Willingness for continuous learning and participation in all areas of SW development work.

  • Readiness to seek and understand the end to end product functionality and customer view.

  • Positive mind set and approach, out-of-the box thinking

  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills, including good communication and presentation skills

  • Quality mindset and strong drive for customer service

  • Analytical thinking, creativity in complex problem solving.
