Modelling Engineer/Specialist, Mobile Networks Baseband&SoC R&D

What you will learn and contribute to

Important part of Nokia’s next-generation technology are SoC’s which are the heart of the Nokia 5G products.

We’re looking for Modelling Engineer/Specialist to join and strengthen our multicultural SoC IP development team. You will be working with the latest SoC based technologies for Nokia’s future 5G base stations e.g. within baseband and massive MIMO areas.  Focus areas for your work would be:

  • C model development of silicon IPs, fixed-point modelling and fixed-point performance verification

  • In-house functional SoC modelling tools development for architecture/design validation and virtual platforms for pre-silicon software development

  • Supporting HW/SW bring-up and debug on the world leading System-on-chips based on the latest ASICs and FPGAs technology

  • Working with experts of different areas to ensure most competitive solutions

  • Cooperating with system engineers, HW/SW development, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders and functions to solve technical issues

Position is a Senior Engineering role in product, system or technology program in SW/HW/System Design or Integration & Verification. Preferred candidate is a highly respected expert with long term experience from previous product or technology programs.

Main Responsibility Area
Candidate writes requirements, specifications and other guiding documentation for R&D from product, program or system point of view. Carries responsibility of design blocks and model, implement and verify design according specifications. High contribution to project milestones by solving and avoiding complex problems, through understanding dependencies across product and system boundaries. Coaches other team members in solving advanced engineering problems at system component level.

Position Description
The responsibilities include following tasks:

  • Contribute and participate to SoC and LTE/5G system architecture development and requirement management

  • Creating and specifying IP blocks and subsystems to ASICs and FPGA’s with latest technology.

  • Leading or performing design, verification and implementation tasks
    Participating on algorithm design and modeling. Developing fixed-point reference models for baseband IP SW and HW

  • Cooperating with system engineers, HW/SW development, suppliers and other relevant functions to solve technical issues.

  • Supporting HW/SW bring-up and debug.

 

Your skills and experience

Candidates with experience one or more following competences are encouraged to apply:

  • Several years working experience in developing ASIC/FPGAs or low level SW.

  • Excellent VHDL/Verilog/System Verilog/UVM/Synthesis knowhow and solid coding and modeling experience

  • Excellent understanding of the SoC (ASIC/FPGA/Low level SW) design flow and process.

  • Solid knowledge of SoC (ASIC/FPGA/low level SW) design and verification tools.

  • Pro-activity and independent problem solving through own experience and network.

  • Solid background in wireless/telecom systems. Knowledge of physical layers (LTE/5G L1/L2)

  • Capability of presenting complicated and abstract concepts in simple manner for variety of audiences

  • Excellent communication skills with solid spoken and written English

  • Project leading and managing experience or scrum master certificate is a plus.

To manage the modelling engineer/specialist role successfully candidate should have some of the following qualifications:

  • Junior/senior level working experience in wireless/telecom receiver algorithms

  • Good object oriented coding skills C++ and C

  • Experience with simulation platforms, e.g. Matlab or System C

  • Experience working with Unix/Linux based development environments

  • Good 5G knowhow is an asset, but not mandatory

  • Some experience in implementing DSP functions on HW accelerators and/or DSP processors

  • Pro-activity and independent problem solving through own experience and network is essential in this role.

  • General understanding of the SoC (ASIC/FPGA/Low level SW) design flow and process.

  • Familiar with Agile practices

  • Good communication skills with fluent spoken and written English.

  • MSc/PhD in engineering or computer science.
