Strategy and Technology lays the path for Nokia’s future technology innovation and identifies the most promising areas for Nokia to create new value. We set the company’s strategy and technology vision, offer an unparalleled research foundation for innovation, and provide critical support infrastructure for Nokia.

We are seeking Simulation Specialist to work in Nokia Standards Radio Interface Group in Espoo or Tampere. We offer interesting opportunities to work in 3GPP research and standardization, focusing on simulations and simulator development. You will be working as part of the Nokia Standards research team, including cooperation with other Nokia and Bell Labs sites, as well as potential participation in research collaborations with Universities and other industry players


What you will learn and contribute to

The typical duties for this position include: 

  • 3GPP standardization research to ensure competitive evolution of the 5G NR standard
  • Be part of creating the long term future  vision and strategies for our simulators and simulation needs.
  • Develop new features for Nokia in-house simulation platforms used by significant number of researchers.
  • Help in maintaining software development processes, ensuring code quality and up-to-date documentation.
  • Support less experienced simulator developers, and help them to grow to future simulation experts
  • Analyze system designs and performance by simulation studies, and provide associated technical recommendations and reports for 5G evolution and beyond broadband technologies
  • Dissemination of analysis and results related to 5G Evolution and beyond internally and in prestigious conferences and journals
  • You can become a master in our simulator platforms and you will publish key results and file patent disclosures.


Your skills and experience 

 You have:

  • Experience in simulator architect role / or equivalent technical leadership experience
  • Proven skills in Matlab and/or C and C++ development, Python skills considered as an asset.
  • Significant experience with advanced simulations, and the associated steps from modeling, implementation, execution of simulations, results analysis, and to the final step of communication of performance results.
  • Deep understanding of mathematical modeling of radio systems

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Knowledge of 3GPP RAN specifications such as LTE and 5G NR
  • Understanding of AI/ML techniques will be a plus
  • Experience in software development in large multiuser software development projects and related tools (e.g. Git, JIRA, ...)
  • Experience of Continuous Integration (CI) Testing (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Fluent with Linux environment
  • Ability to conduct both independent research as well as being a good collaborator working as part of team, including virtual multi-site teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to details, including abilities to address complicated problems, division of those into manageable sub-problems, and related problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, you can express yourself fluently in English  
  • MSc or PhD preferably from the field of telecommunications but also other fields like electronics, computer science, mathematics or physics are considered
