The team you’ll be part of

Nokia Technologies is focused on licensing Nokia intellectual property, including patents, technologies and the Nokia brand, building on Nokia’s continued innovation and decades of R&D leadership in technologies used in virtually all connected devices used today.

The Multimedia Technologies unit develops state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies and system solutions. We drive the standardization of future media technologies in leading standardization organizations.

 

What you will learn and contribute to

We are offering Senior/Principal level positions for experts in algorithm design for neural network based video coding. The primary location for this position is Tampere, Finland. We can also consider other locations (e.g. Munich, Germany or San Diego, USA).

  • You will provide significant technical leadership in the development of novel neural network based video coding algorithms and solutions for next generation video codecs
  • This position will involve participating in hands-on research work as well as contributing to standardization activities.
  • As a member of our research staff, you will be expected to initiate and create research ideas as well as contribute to research work that leads to technology transfer, publications and Intellectual Property.
  • You will also be authoring contributions to relevant international standardization projects.

 

Your skills and experience

To succeed in this exciting role, we expect you to have

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on neural network based algorithm development in video/image signal processing preferably with a focus on video coding
  • At least a master’s degree, a PhD degree is preferred.
  • Solid experience in software development and prominent skills in Python and related ML frameworks (TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, …) and C/C++.
  • Knowledge of the latest video coding standards, such as HEVC and VVC.
  • Strong mathematical and theoretical skills.
  • A track record of publishing in scientific journals in the fields of machine learning, video/image signal processing and compression.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills in English along with excellent technical and scientific writing skills in English.
  • You are hard-working, creative and results oriented.
  • Experience in international standardization is considered a benefit.
