Multimedia Technologies Research Lab develops differentiating multimedia technologies and system solutions through research to Nokia products, strengthens Nokia's patent portfolio and drives technology standardization.

Immersive Video Systems Research team is a globally recognized research and technology development team that focuses on conventional and immersive visual communications, and actively takes part in standardization.

 

What you will learn and contribute to

Are you passionate about solving problems?
As part of our team, you will:

  • contribute to research and development of cutting-edge immersive multimedia technologies for XR media ecosystems
  • develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts of immersive multimedia technologies which are standardized in organizations such as 3GPP, MPEG and IETF.
  • contribute to standardization and showcasing of emerging technologies via demonstrations and proof-of-concepts
  • collaborate within the team to contribute to Nokia’s IPR leadership in multimedia technologies

 

 Your skills and experience

 You have:

  • MSc or PhD degree which is relevant for implementations of multimedia technologies 
  •  At least 5 years of experience in technology development:
    • Algorithms, APIs or systems development for multimedia XR applications or services on XR devices (e.g., HMDs, AR glasses) and mobile platforms
    • Expert knowledge of Python, C++ and software development lifecycle tools such as Git.
    • Hands-on experience on multimedia communication and streaming systems development, and familiarity with streaming solutions such as g-streamer
    • Implementation experience with media streaming protocols (e.g., DASH, RTP, WebRTC, QUIC, session negotiation and management)
    • Experience on implementation of MPEG Immersive suite of standards (video coding standards is a plus)
    •  Knowledge on IP transport protocols and systems

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Knowledge of 3GPP multimedia systems and 5G architecture (this is a great plus)
  • Experience in standardization (3GPP, MPEG, IETF or alike) and familiarity to standardization related processes
  • Edge media processing for XR (experience on computer vision algorithms is a plus)
  • Understanding of 3D graphics pipelines and parallel computing as well as implementation experience with at least one of OpenGL, Vulkan, Cuda or OpenCL APIs.
