The team you'll be part of


Strategy and Technology lays the path for Nokia’s future technology innovation and identifies the most promising areas for Nokia to create new value. We set the company’s strategy and technology vision, offer an unparalleled research foundation for innovation, and bring this vision to life by driving the contents of next-generation standards. 

We are a Nokia Bell Labs team of experienced researchers working on practical software (Nokia proprietary, as well as open source), which provides access to the Internet for end-user equipment such as smartphones, softphones and IoT in 4G, 5G and the coming 6G. We design, setup and implement proofs of concept to experiment, de-risk and innovate key ideas in the cellular/core software areas, according to Nokia technology strategy as well as specific internal and external demands.

We work mostly in a laboratory using Linux systems and real radio equipment, such as RF boards and Nokia cellular equipment. We also work on simulation aspects in software. As a small team, we have a lot of interactions with other Nokia and Bell Labs teams, such as product divisions, standards and architecture teams, other research teams world-wide, as well as academics and industrial partners. We have a strong and long-life team spirit and would like to share it with a new hire.      


What you will learn and contribute to


  • understand key concerns and evolution in cellular network (5G, 6G…) such as repartition of functional modules, disaggregation, and open interfaces,
  • understand new concerns in software used to implement RAN/Core systems such as Nokia and open-source software, Linux systems and variants, dedicated and specialized hardware and tools,
  • participate in collaborative mode to the design, implementation in software and the proof of key innovations related to RAN/Core technology evolution,
  • create inventions and intellectual property (IPR’s)
  • demonstrate and publish results


Your skills and experience


  • Interest and experience with fixed and cellular network protocols and architecture (TCP/IP, 3GPP)
  • Interest and experience with Linux systems (kernel and user space) and software programming (must know C/C++ and Git)
  • Open mindset and curious to research in the software domain applied to cellular, including dedicated hardware
  • Capable of conducting and assessing experiments based on new ideas
  • Easy to discuss and share within the team
  • Interest in open source,
  • Interest in patent and papers writing
  • MSc, Ph.D., post-docs, entry level, recent graduate preferably in the field of computer science, electronics, or physics
  • Fluent spoken and written French and English skills
