Radio Research Engineer/Scientist

We have world leading experts, who are behind many of the advances in the cellular communications, and we aim to have a key role in developing the new generation of cellular radio, providing ground-breaking new use cases and capabilities. Your responsibilities in the team will depend on your personal skills and interests, but there is a large set of challenges ahead

The Bell Labs Radio Research Engineer/Scientist position is focused on creation of new technologies and systems for wireless communications, in order to address future human needs. Specifically, the position involves innovation in physical layer, medium access and radio resource management technologies, and systems engineering of wireless systems. AI/ML could be a central tool for the work. Focus can be on massive MIMO or extreme connectivity. The position might also include testing and trialing such innovations. The focus is on challenging industry problems that cannot be solved through technologies available today, but requires fundamentally different solutions with potential to be realized in the longer term. Close collaboration with multiple research domains covering all aspects of communications, networking, and platforms, the corporate strategy and technology organization, Nokia business units and in some case with customers is expected. The new technologies created through the research work is expected to lead to intellectual property, standardization proposals, and Nokia product differentiation. Publication of research results in leading conferences and journals thereby enhancing the image and reputation of Bell Labs is also integral part of the job.

 

What you will learn and contribute to

  • Devise novel communication schemes to meet new and challenging requirements for non-traditional use cases

  • Propose and evaluate novel algorithms for optimizing the performance of wireless communication systems

  • System level modeling of wireless communication systems for various performance studies

  • Support the development of proof-of-concepts of new technologies

  • Generate Intellectual property through patents and support standardization of the concepts by writing contributions as necessary

  • Disseminate research internally and externally through customer focused presentations, conference and journal publications

  • Engage and collaborate with customers on joint research projects

 

Your skills and experience

  • Master level studies completed in related field

  • Familiarity with radio systems

  • Programming and computer skills

  • Personal attributes:

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and design strategies

  • Able to collaborate both with the immediate team as well as others in the larger Bell Labs community as need arises

  • Positive attitude, and ready to take-on challenges

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Good presentation and writing skills

  • PhD in related field

  • Familiarity with 6G, NR and LTE standards and concepts

  • Capability to test and trial new innovations via putting together suitable hardware and software
