Optical Network Researcher AI/ML
Come create the technology that helps the world act together
Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.
We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.
The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
Within Bell Labs, the "Optical Systems & Devices Research” lab investigates forward-looking research activities for the preparation of the future optical transport networks that will interconnect data centers, cities and continents. Such networks will be expected to provide ever increasing capacity, flexibility and agility at reduced costs and energy impact.
What you will learn and contribute to
The future optical fabric will offer digital services down to the physical network layer by introducing digital platforms to collect, visualize, analyze, and learn from data. It will support optical network digital twinning, which offers a virtual representation of the network to understand the network performance, anticipate issues, and meet customer expectations. Digital twin for synchronous optimizations and real-time network healing requires high-speed performance prediction at point-to-point and network levels. Artificial intelligence (AI), like artificial neural networks, can help accommodate computing acceleration speed, preserving the same accuracy.
In addition, since AI consumes a massive amount of data, the effort must also be dedicated to creating a dataset and analyzing field-collected data obtained from real networks.
You will join a unique worldwide-recognized team to contribute as a researcher to investigate AI in optical networks for real-time healing and optimization through datasets analysis obtained from simulations, experiments, and authentic field trials.
Objectives:
- Propose, design AI algorithms for the digital twin
- Perform data analytics
- Participate to European and national projects.
- Participate in transfer of research assets into the products of business divisions
- Enrich the Intellectual Property portfolio
- Promote Bell-Labs excellence through scientific publications
Your skills and experience
- Outstanding scholar records while working towards PhD degree in Optical Telecommunications
- Solid basis in telecommunications, optical propagation, physical layer, and machine learning
- Eager to develop strong skills in optical communication simulations and digital twin
- Innovative and autonomous, you can work in a team environment and foster shared experiences
- Strong spoken and written technical English.
