Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

 

 

What you will learn and contribute to

 

Mission/Purpose of role

Bell Labs Core Research is looking for a Lab engineer who will join the NSSR (Network Systems and Security Research) Lab to contribute to the design and development of end-to-end network and network security solutions and research. The engineer will support lab infrastructure and operations. The candidate should have an excellent knowledge of cloud technologies, networking, software and cybersecurity. You will be challenged! You will work with Bell Labs researchers/BGs to design, develop and maintain both hardware and software Lab infrastructure.

Main Responsibility Areas

- Set up, configure and maintain (daily operation) cloud infrastructure including Nokia Cloud, OpenStack, Kubernetes and other cloud management technologies

- Set up, configure and maintain (daily operation) H/W including AirFrame, Radio, Whitebox Switches and routing equipment

- Technical support of Bell Labs and customer demos, including interaction with BGs

- Bring (learn and deploy) relevant Nokia products/solutions into Network Systems and Security Research Lab

- Write and maintain internal documentation for Lab operations

Key Interfaces

- Research staff Network Systems and Security Research Lab

- Technical staff across other labs and Nokia’s different business groups

  

Your skills and experience

Essential Requirements:

- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or relevant network field (preferable Master’s degree)

- Significant demonstrable experience in Lab developments and maintenance

- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with peer developers and researchers

- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and to work in a fast paced, innovative environment

- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision and be proactive

- Interested in learning programming languages and methodologies beyond current skills

Preferred Requirements:

- Knowledge on hardware power management (including UPS and other power backup solutions) is a plus

- Deep knowledge on networking and cybersecurity is a plus

- Experience in Software development (scripting to research prototyping) is a plus
