The team you'll be part of 

Our Business Group is a leader in wireless mobility networks and associated services. With more than 3.500 patent families essential for 5G we have a strong 5G portfolio and are a front runner in open and virtualized radio access networks (O-RAN and vRAN). 

Within our Mobile Networks (MN) business group, you will have the opportunity to work with a group of teams that is addressing the next evolution of wireless communications in Layer 1 for 5G and 6G. We are designing, validating, and productizing Machine Learning (ML) algorithms whose primary aim is to provide our products the competitive edge. Our teams are composed of experts in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Wireless Communication Systems (WCSys), and Machine Learning (ML). In addition, we also have junior members, as well as thesis workers exploring novel topics. 

Our responsibility area covers the full chain of embedded and real-time HW/SW ML development cycle, from early requirements analysis to final delivery to our operations and customers.

What you will learn and contribute to 

We are working on the bleeding edge of wireless technology. Our problems are challenging from the SW Engineering, ML, DSP, and WCSys point of view.  

As an ML architect, you will be working with Bell Labs research, Architecture and Specification, SoC and ML development teams to architect the ML features that will shape the next generation 5G Advanced and 6G baseband products. 
As part of our ML team, you will: 

  • Collaborate with different RAN architects in the creation of ML functionality for RAN  

  • Translate Wireless Comms technical requirements to ML teams  

  • Translate ML concepts and technical aspects to Wireless experts 

  • Be the technical reference for quality, solution design and/or feedback for ML Engineers and Data Engineers/Analysts in the L1 SW ML group 

  • Contribute to the technical documentation of the ML solutions in the form of Innovation Reports, Patents and/or internal documentation 

 

Your skills and experience 

You are proactive and independent. You have great communication skills that allow you to feel comfortable in a team and to motivate colleagues. Our language at work is English, so you are fluent enough. You enjoy learning on the job. 

Additionally, you share our values that build our company culture

Guiding qualifications: 

  • You have telecommunications research and/or industry experience (preferred 5+ years), with a focus in L1 algorithms 

  • You have software engineering experience, with focus on C++ and Python 

  • Master or PhD of Science degree in computer science, signal processing, communications, machine learning or equivalent area. 

  • Experience designing and implementing machine learning solutions, with a focus on deep learning based algorithms. 

  • In depth-knowledge of Signal Processing concepts, time series data, FFT and frequency based data 

 

We also appreciate the following: 

  • Knowledge of processor architectures, signal processing, embedded systems, and real-time systems for ML 

  • You understand the significance of good SW practices for high quality SW., 

  • Experience with data analytics, data collection pipelines, experience with pipelines connected to real hardware/machines   

  • Pro-active, independent problem solver  

  • Good interpersonal skills and capability to work in international multi-site environment
