Education, Requirements and Qualifications (Baseline):
  • Japanese Bar Qualified lawyer (will consider US qualified lawyer with LLB from Japanese university)
  • Minimum 5 years PQE
  • Trained/qualified at a top tier, reputable corporate/commercial law firm
  • Excellent academic record and working references / credentials
  • Exceptional communication skills and fluency in Japanese and English
  • Able to travel as needed
Differentiating factor – Education/Experience:
  • Experience in general ethics and compliance matters, familiarity with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and European anti-corruption laws (or commitment to develop skills/knowledge in this area).
  • Experience in technology or telecommunications industry
  • In-house counsel experience in a global multi-national company
Personal attributes/Competencies (Baseline):
  • Extensive experience in drafting commercial documents and managing negotiations with customers
  • Excellent legal skills and knowledge of contract and commercial law
  • Proven track record in stakeholder management, with ability to interact and integrate effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills
  • Highly independent and self-motivated. Influences others to support decisions. Develops and applies innovative approaches to complex or infrequently occurring problems.
  • Formulates operational guidelines to support the business teams
  • Strives for a working environment which encourages team work and innovation. 
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking by anticipating internal/external business issues and developments; uses knowledge to drive improvements
  • Proactively seeks out learning and development opportunities to develop self and team.
