Come create the technology that helps the world act together

Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.

Strategy and Technology lays the path for Nokia’s future technology innovation and identifies the most promising areas for Nokia to create new value. We set the company’s strategy and technology vision, offer an unparalleled research foundation for innovation, and provide critical support infrastructure for Nokia.

The Strategic Partnerships group is part of Nokia’s centralized Strategy and Technology organization.  We work in a collaborative model to drive external corporate partnerships, strategic M&A assessments, and ecosystem building.  A key focus area for the Strategic Partnerships Group is to enhance Nokia’s innovation framework – to realize the commercial impact of internal incubation and the strategic impact of external investment activities.

As part of the innovation framework, we are building a new internal incubator to take innovative new ideas and commercialize them as new businesses. We are looking for an experienced hardware architect to lead hardware related product development activities.

What you will learn and contribute to

As we are ramping up a new business venture, we are establishing a new role to lead hardware engineering activities. The business goal of this new venture is to build immersive, real time situational awareness experience for industrial enterprise customers based on advanced video, audio and sensor technologies. In this venture, the product hardware extends from imaging and audio capture to private wireless networks all the way to edge computing and end user devices including VR.

We are looking for Hardware Engineer/Architect to define, design and specify our commercial grade industrial hardware solutions and ensure best hardware fit for the customer requirements and product roadmap, taking into consideration reliability, computational efficiency, industrial usage environment and overall cost. You will also take part in designing the product, sourcing the necessary hardware related activities and help building partnerships with relevant hardware vendors. Candidate should also have hands-on experience and desire for prototyping or leading such prototyping activities performed by experts. Ideally, you would have experience in hardware product quality assurance and testing.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Collect requirements, define and design industrial hardware solutions which are required for the product.
  • Lead the development, procurement and sourcing required for building and prototyping the hardware
  • Contribute to the hardware vendor selection, sourcing and branding process for different deployment options and requirements of the product
  • Collaborate with product management and R&D development teams for selection and usage of best hardware needed in order to fulfil the environmental, run-time and computational requirements.
  • Become an active contributor to the product’s success by promoting the developed hardware solution towards the customers and solution ecosystem
  • Collaborate with other Nokia product development teams to integrate your product with private wireless and edge computing product lines

Your skills and experience:

  • Experience on specification, development and architecture definition for hardware solutions that are deployed in cloud, embedded or stand-alone hardware (knowledge of multimedia capture and processing hardware and architectures is a big plus)
  • Experience in balancing between features, time-to-market, hardware costs and risk profiles
  • Creating hardware product roadmaps from short term deliveries to longer term vision
  • BSc or MSc degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer science or relevant fields.
  • Experience in product development where product deployment could be quite flexible and requires multiple different hardware configurations
  • The following experience is considered as an advantage
    • New product development, prototyping and MVP minded R&D
    • Hardware virtualization technologies
    • Hardware quality and testing
    • Deeper understanding on advanced video and audio technologies
    • Collaboration with 3rd party hardware vendors and co-R&D programs
    • Direct customer and partner collaboration
  • Strong communication skills and being fluent in English.
  • Being a team player, self-guided and goal-oriented personality with string cooperation skills with different teams within or outside their own company
