What you will learn and contribute to

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Patent Analytics team. Patent Analytics team is a key function in Nokia Technology CTO organization and responsible for providing and further developing analytics to support management of our world-leading patent portfolio.


As part of our team, you will:

  • gathering an understanding of the potential of data analytics in the patenting and patent portfolio management space, as well has how that potential is captured by commercial offerings and in research
  • develop machine learning (ML) enabled patent data analytics models and contribute to AI and automation of the patent management activities
  • develop data visualization applications for demonstration of analytics results in patent portfolio management space
  • perform statistical analysis and derive insights from multi-layered data


Your skills and experience

  You have:

  • M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency with one or more programming languages (Python, R, Javascript, etc.) is essential
  • Solid understanding and experience with a generic ML stack in Python and ML libraries (e.g. Scikit-learn, TF, Keras)
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and developing data visualization tools and dashboards using Python or equivalent Java based framework (e.g. REACT)
  • Experience working with patents in analytics and/or portfolio management context as well as good understanding of patent processes



It would be nice if you also had:

  • Expertise in descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, and experience with applying methods such as predictive analytics, time series, hypothesis testing, classification, clustering and regression analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (readable, well-tested, with well-designed APIs)
  • Experience with cloud services and analytical tools, preferably with Microsoft Azure platform (Databricks, Data Factory, Data Lake)
  • Knowledge of application development and deployment (CI/CD) tools and frameworks, preferably Azure DevOps
  • Experience with scientific computing and analysis packages such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas.
  • Experience with Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) framework to implement data pre-processing and/or post-processing
  • Experience with enterprise reporting applications such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as proven inter-personal and communication skills
  • Experience communicating with and influencing technical and non-technical audiences (engineers, data scientists, program managers, key stakeholders)
  • Good project management skills
