General Purpose of the Role/Job Position Summary Description:   

As an SRE you will engage in highly strategic customer activities: from pre-production activities (POCs & early deliveries) to the introduction of new products / features and the recovery from introducing those into live production systems.  It is expected that things will not go smoothly all the time, so you will also automate the problem you’ve solved, so the system will recover automatically, next time. 
Developing and automating will be 50% of your time, while running cloud infrastructure operations will be done the rest of your time (pre-production & early deliveries, including tier-4 on-call duties).  Additionally, you will be enabling our global services teams on our products and features and especially the operation tools developed by the team.   

Nokia is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to be part of the Cloud Infrastructure Customer Engineering team (R&D), under Nokia Software Technology Group.
 
Key Responsibilities / Functions:
  • As a Cloud Infrastructure SRE you will be part of a special R&D task force preventing and solving the most critical and strategic customer issues reported by the field. 
  • The SRE will strive to automate any recovery procedures.
  • You will work side by side with product developers and product management to push automation and operability tools to make the cloud platform more reliable.

  • You have outstanding communication skills and work great in a team
  • You are an experienced individual, self-sufficient, can work in a start-up like environment and still be able to focus on the right tasks with the highest priority
  • You are not afraid to take risks, but know that you’re also accountable and capable of fixing the issues if the risks materialize
Required Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge) 
  • Bachelor´s degree or equivalent experience required, Master´s is a plus
  • At least 9 years of experience in Infrastructure/IT/System Engineer
  • You’re a Troubleshooter in nature (system reliability runs in your blood!)
  • You have at least 2 years of DevOps, SRE or similar engineering experience (combined development and production deployment/support experience)
  • You have a Strong background in Linux/Unix Internals (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • You have deep Knowledge in Networking – Layers 1-4
  • You have at least several years of experience with at least two of the following programming/scripting languages (Python, Java, Bash)
  • You have experience with cloud infrastructure & virtualization
  • You have production experience with at least two of the following platforms: OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure Stack, Kubernetes.
  • Production experience with the at least two of the following: Docker, Ansible, Puppet
Desired Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)
  • You have previously worked in a customer-oriented environment and you have the ability to handle and resolve critical customer issues/problems
  • You have deep Knowledge of Virtualization environment: KVM, Containers
  • You have good Knowledge of switching and routing configuration and protocols
  • You have hands on experience with Open vSwitch
  • You have experience with Linux kernel
  • You have good knowledge of additional technologies – DPDK, SR-IOV, Ceph
 Location: Candidate should be located in: Austin,TX; or Bellevue, WA.
