Come create the technology that helps the world act together

Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.

We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.

The team you'll be part of

Strategy and Technology lays the path for Nokia’s future technology innovation and identifies the most promising areas for Nokia to create new value. We set the company’s strategy and technology vision, offer an unparalleled research foundation for innovation, and provide critical support infrastructure for Nokia.

Nokia Standards targets collaboration with internal and external experts to advance the state-of-the-art technology landscape as well as to protect Nokia Intellectual Property. The Architecture, Security, and Automation Group is responsible for research and standardization activities related to 5G and 6G mobile network architecture, security and its AI/ML-empowered network automation. Our team leads the industry transition of mobile network functions, applications, and workloads to fully cloud-native deployments.

What you will learn and contribute to

We are looking for a Chief Architect for Transport Networks to further strengthen our research, standardization, and leadership team. In this role you will be responsible for analyzing new trends and requirements in the transport (e.g., IP, Optics, PON) domain, analyzing demands on transport networks resulting from future mobile network architectures and driving cross-domain (radio access, mobile core, transport) activities leading to a consistent view about new architectures, technologies, and their usage.

The job includes development and execution of a research and standardization strategy supporting the evolution of transport network architecture, protocols, and management. You will engage with applied research and standardization professionals to drive and defend Nokia’s preferred solutions in key industry organizations as well as to build up robust intellectual property assets for Nokia. Interaction with customers, partners, and competitors in these organizations is an inherent part of the job.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Analyze requirements and new technologies in the transport network domain, investigate possible new architectures, deployment options and how they translate into evolved roadmaps.
  • Take into account radio access and core network evolutions, as well as energy efficiency, environmental, and climate impact aspects
  • Drive the creation of a technology vision, strategy, and the definition of reference architectures.
  • Develop and evolve a research and standardization strategy in the transport network domain considering future trends in close collaboration with Nokia Business Groups.
  • Aligned with the targets of Nokia Business Groups, drive and defend Nokia’s preferred solutions in key industry organizations like IETF and IEEE.
  • Engage with customers and ecosystem partners as part of the research and standardization process.
  • Protect the generated intellectual property by patents, contribute to the implementation of patents in standards, review of inventions from others.

Your skills and experience

You have/are:

  • Excellent knowledge of
    • Architecture trends such as cloudification, virtualization, open RAN, service-based architecture, mainly 3GPP (e.g., 5G, 5G advanced), and
    • technologies in the transport network domain, especially in IP, Ethernet, and optical networks.
  • Strong expertise in IETF protocols such as IPv6, IP/MPLS, SRv6, DetNet.
  • Preferably good knowledge in IEEE TSN protocol suite.
  • MSc degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. A PhD is a plus.
  • Proven strong analytical thinking, ability to address complex problems and find innovative, disruptive solutions in multi-cultural engineering, research, and standardization environments.
  • An outstanding team player, with the ability to work autonomously and drive ideas forward until the execution phase.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

It would be nice if you are or also had:

  • Self-motivated, passionate, and hands-on; interested in new technology trends, especially in the transport (IP, Optics, PON) area.
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to, work in, and lead international and multi-site virtual teams, good interpersonal skills.
