The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
The Application & Solution Software Research team creates innovative applications and solutions, by turning disruptive research and technologies into practical systems. We aim to create concept apps that are ready for real-life testing Industry 4.0 markets. The research focus areas of the team include digital twins, no-code/low-code service creation and orchestration, IoT data and robotic service orchestration.
What you will learn and contribute to
We are looking for a passionate Back-end & DevOps Software Research Engineer to shape the future of Industry 4.0 apps.
Are you passionate about solving problems?
As part of our team, you will:
- Design, write and review well-designed, scalable and testable code according to requirements and architecture/UX design
- Design, plan, implement and maintain automated pipelines for continuous integration and continuous delivery of new apps and solutions, using state-of-the-art technologies
- Work with other research engineers, UI/UX designers, product owners and stakeholders to understand and clarify business requirements and user experience goals
- Continuously work to improve implementation as well as development processes in order to improve quality and efficiency; debug and fix bugs, optimize performance, troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems
- Work with Nokia business units and incubators to incubate research into early-stage products, transfer knowledge and to act as expert counsel in your field of expertise
- Stay current with state of the art and explore beyond
Your skills and experience
You have:
- Master of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent by education or experience, 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong software development skills and computer science fundamentals; strong quality and continuous improvement mindset; a keen eye for user experience and detail
- Experience with back-end software development and cloud-native technologies, such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, microservice architectures
- Understanding of the inner workings of containers and container orchestration, and with Kubernetes, Helm and Operators
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience with the software development life cycle, Agile development, version control/Git and CI/CD toolchains
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Shell Scripting, Python, YAML, etc.
- Experience with messaging middleware technologies like AMQP, MQTT and NATS, API technologies like GraphQL and REST, and database technologies like NoSQL and TSDB
- Strong collaboration and inter-personal skills; excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken)
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to team-oriented projects in a highly dynamic, geographically distributed environment
