Bell Labs Summer Intern

Nokia Bell Labs is building the future of human experience and our interns will have the opportunity to learn from and work with industry leading experts, who solve the most formidable challenges confronting our world through disruptive innovation and research.

The interns with collaborate with researchers and innovators in the Integrated Solutions and Experiences (ISE) Laboratory in the Bell Labs Solutions Research organization. The team is focused on impactful research outcomes in industrial automation and is therefore very hands on and collaborative. There are many opportunities for extensive inter-disciplinary work. 

 

Education Recommendations

 
Currently a candidate for bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics or related field with an accredited school in US.

 

What you will learn and contribute to

In this role, you will be part of the Applied Analytics & Algorithms team in the Integrated Solutions and Experiences Lab at the prestigious Nokia Bell Labs. Your work will create an impact by solving hard challenges in indoor autonomous industrial automation space, advancing the state-of-the-art, and developing innovative solutions for real use cases.

You will be doing cutting-edge and exciting work in a passionate, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative team. You will build your ideas from the drawing board and drive towards bringing it to the final product by building prototypes. Candidates with a passion for and skills related to perception, planning, and control in drones and/or robots are invited to apply.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Implement large-scale distributed and networked software systems.
  • Invent and implement new applied analytics/algorithms and integrate them with the existing code base
  • Explore digital twin/Metaverse in an industrial context
  • Create technologies with potential of becoming a future business for the company

     

What is Nokia looking for from me

While software is a predominant aspect of the system we are building, the candidate must be a versatile person that understands the hardware concepts (electronics and mechanics) relevant for robotics and can perform hands-on work in that area when needed. Good understanding of relevant mathematical concepts is an absolute must.

Candidates should possess a subset of the following skills either through previous employment experience or through university academic research:

  • Strong knowledge of networking, system software, operating systems, distributed systems.
  • Strong software development skills in Python, C/C++, shell scripting, Git.
  • Strong mathematical background relevant for digital twins, localization, vision processing, and acoustics.
  • Ability to develop and debug the system across all layers of hardware and software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and fluent in English
  • Can work in the “gray zone” when there is uncertainty or lack of clarity. Very comfortable with innovation risk taking
