The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
The goal of the Radio Systems Research Department at Nokia Bell Labs is to develop novel, superior, and disruptive technologies for wireless communication and sensing focusing on the physical and medium access layers, radio resource management, and system design. We are devoted to establishing fundamentals as well as to developing game-changing, high-impact technologies and concepts for radio connectivity in an ever-widening range of frequency bands.

We are a team of talented and energetic researchers with deep expertise ranging from wave propagation to MIMO algorithms to cellular system design and optimization, with AI/ML as an integral part of our research toolbox. There are ample opportunities to learn and grow in your research career, by collaborating closely with world-leading experts across all of Bell Labs and Nokia’s business groups.
We are seeking highly self-motivated talents to work on various challenges in wireless communication systems, with a focus on fundamentals and algorithmic aspects of physical layer, media access, and resource allocation. You are expected to:
- Take initiative, and work independently as well as within a team
- Develop new concepts, algorithms, and solutions
- Generate intellectual property and technology transfer to business groups and standards bodies
- Communicate research results effectively to both internal and external audiences
- Establish thought leadership via conference/journal/white paper publications
Your skills and experience
We are looking for a broad spectrum of candidates, ranging from new graduates to senior researchers in the field:
- Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with deep understanding of wireless communications
- Expertise in one or more areas: information theory, wireless communications, signal processing, AI/ML, convex optimization, or cross-disciplinary research
- Expertise and experience in MIMO, MU-MIMO and massive MIMO algorithms and performance evaluation regarded as advantage
- Experience in channel estimation, system simulation, and performance evaluation
- Experience in physical layer algorithms such as compression, channel coding, modulation, waveforms, MIMO
- Proven track record in scientific publications
