Role description

The candidate will manage a research department in networking systems for augmented machine interactions. The role entails leading several researchers in the design, implementation, and analysis of new network architectures, protocols, and systems for software-defined networking, network virtualization, cloud automation, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things.  The candidate must be fluent in the current state-of-the-art and scientific literature of these areas, in which she/he should have published impactful research work. The responsibilities will encompass leading the development of innovative ideas, their evaluation, measurement, and analysis, and their implementation as prototype systems to further Bell Labs’ long history of discoveries and technological contributions. The candidate’s vision and leadership will drive the development of concepts and architectures for the next generation of network systems and software.

 

 

Key Responsibilities / Functions:

• Provide experience, vision, and leadership to a department of world-class researchers in accordance with the Bell Labs’ FutureX agenda

• Drive and carry out groundbreaking and innovative research in networking systems for industrial automation

• Design, build and prototype systems to demonstrate research innovations and technology impact

• Propose, investigate and publish research in premier conferences and journals worldwide

• Partner with Nokia’s business units to ensure the successful transfer and commercialization of research assets

• Create and maintain strong collaborative associations with university-based researchers, other leading research organizations


Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field with deep understanding of IP networking and expertise in areas such as software-defined networking, network virtualization, cloud automation, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things

• Established research vision and leadership in the field of networking and related disciplines

• At least five years of seniority in high-profile research institutions

• Proven track record of research contributions and publications in leading and internationally recognized conferences and journals

• Proven role as technical leader in industrial and academic research collaborations involving several researchers and partners

• Ability to drive interactions and deliveries between research, business partners, and customers

• Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to team-oriented projects

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

Desired Qualifications:

• Strong background in networking with hands-on and practical system building experience
