Bell labs summer intern (2020)


 


The primary duty for this position is to design and standardize current and future radio technologies for use in Nokia's cellular and broadband wireless network products.  The candidate should be able to perform analysis and simulation of cellular radio systems to support the design and development of advanced algorithms and radio technologies, research new technologies, publish key results, and file patent disclosures at the end of their internship period.


Job description may encompass the following broad areas:


 


a.   Analyze system designs and provide associated technical recommendations and reports for 5G broadband technologies (3G Partnership Project (3GPP). 


 


b.   Investigate multiple antenna techniques (MAS) for 5G systems for downlink and uplink. MAS techniques includes transmit diversity, single user MIMO (SU-MIMO), multi user MIMO (MU-MIMO), Massive MIMO and various MIMO architectures including full baseband, hybrid and RF.



c.   Contribute towards 5G and 5G Evolution technologies specifically in bands from sub 6 GHz-140 GHz. The job includes development of channel models in bands beyond 6 GHz, physical layer and MAC design at these higher bands including suitable MIMO/beamforming technologies, self-backhauling technologies and system/link simulations to validate the design.


 


d.   Application of 5G and 5G Evolution systems to various IoT technologies (e.g. IIoT, NR Light, V2X, eHealth etc.)


 


e.   Application of Machine Learning to 5G/5G Evolution technologies


 


f. 5G Evolution technology for Non Terrestrial Network


g.    File multiple patent disclosures related to 5G/5G Evolution air-interface and MAC design.



h.   Publications of analysis and results related to 5G/5G Evolution both externally and internally. Externally, it should be published at an IEEE conference, magazine or journal.



i.  The candidate needs to have very good presentation and writing skills.



Student Criteria:

Overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above.

Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

 

Work Authorization:  U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred.  Will accept students on F-1 Visa dependent upon program requirements or may consider sponsoring short-term J1 Visa PhD students dependent upon program requirements.


Skills and qualifications:

The intern should have completed their MS and is pursuing Ph.D in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Digital Communications, Digital Signal processing and Cellular communication. Programming in C, C++ , Python and Matlab is essential. Good presentation and writing skills are desired

Students on 2nd or 3rd year in their Ph.D program
